Blepharoplasty is eyelid rejuvenation surgery. It can be done on the upper eyelids or the lower eyelids. Depending on the case, Dr. Croley sometimes adjusts both areas. Correcting the lower eyelids smoothes the skin and eliminates puffiness. Blepharoplasty does not eliminate all lines and wrinkles in the skin. Correcting the upper eyelids tightens the skin and eliminates hooding. In some cases, upper blepharoplasty is performed to stop tissue from hanging over the eyelashes and affecting vision.
The blepharoplasty procedure can take from one to two hours or longer depending on whether both the upper and lower eyelids are being treated. Appropriate anesthesia keeps patients completely comfortable through their procedures. After the numbness wears off, comfort can usually be maintained with over-the-counter pain relief medication such as Tylenol. Side effects including bruising and swelling are to be expected, but both typically disappear within 10 to 14 days, at which time patients can go back to work and normal activities feeling confident in their refreshed appearance.
Blepharoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed today. Patients who have this procedure done once usually do not need to have it repeated. In addition to blepharoplasty eyelid rejuvenation surgery, patients wanting to take a few years off of their appearance may appreciate what can be achieved with injectables like Botox and Restylane.
